Rediscovering the cyberpunk literature, also thanks to roleplaying games like Gregor Hutton's Remember Tomorrow and Jeremy Keller's Technoir, which rekindled my love for those dystopian atmospheres.
I was discussing with a friend the main differences between science fiction and cyberpunk and I think it's the focus. In science fiction literature, the focus is the human society as a whole, and how it reacts to whatever theme one wants to explore (be it alien contact, power, environment, transhumanism, singularities, etc.) -in this respect, the real protagonist is the human species, and the main characters are its reflection. Contrary to that, in cyberpunk literature it's the individual being the focus, in his struggle against society -hence the 'punk' part. Therefore, it tends to be more visceral and less intellectual than science fiction. It's a very personal conclusion, mind you.
Now on the technical side. You already know that my art would not exist without 's brushes. This time I wanted to work on a complex background, and did all the neon signs, all the details and used no texture, only some photo reference. The deviation title is an obvious homage to William Gibson. Hope you like it.
EDIT: Added bokeh effect. You know, when you shot a picture and there's rain in the air, or your camera's lens has drops of water that show up blurred in the photo? And here's the tutorial I used in order to do that: [link]
EDIT2: Changed some other details in order to match the kind critique I was given from who gave me a great feedback.
EDIT3: REMIX! Whoa, I edited this picture three times. Yay for work in fieri! Anyways, I felt like reediting the sun's lens flare effect, adding buildings and lights, and making the piece up to date with my technique. Also corrected the main character's anatomy which should be more realistic now. Don't bother if you don't remember how it was before and please take my word. And now on Creative Commons!
EDIT4: a minor edit. Behold! I discovered chromatic aberrations!!
Can I use it for a game, granting you credits, and an annual percentage as it turns commercial?
Please consider my offer
