Cyberpunk by TazioBettin Cyberpunk by TazioBettin
I doodled the background some days ago and felt like using it for a complete picture. So I thought how I'd see a cyberspace cowboy in the Gibsonian future, and I imagine a rather minimalistic setting, with a retro touch delivered by the old fashioned dermatrodes. And of course some holographic special effect just to make sure that she's in cyberspace and not just running an EEG =P

Oh and the pen is a small homage to Inception.

On the technical side some of the filters used include lens correction and halftone pattern.
Textures from CG textures [link]

Edit: some tweaks to have her torso more feminine, thanks to :iconaerozopher: for the suggestion.
Also tweaked the dust using :iconnathie: 's dust brushes, which I find awesome!

Everything from the background and the girl herself, from the head to those gorgeous toes, came out wonderfully. I love this picture.

Nice use of color to set the mood, especially on the skin tone. Great anatomy, especially the hands and feet. Not terribly fond of the panties though---looks a bit weird. BTW, this image has more of the loner/nerdy girl feel I am looking for in Emma; the way her eyes are downcast and contemplative, the way her hair is falling to one side...

Makes me want to pull out and play ShadownRun or Cyberpunk: 2020 (remember when that was in the far future, and not 8 years away? :-) ).

I'd rather suggest Remember Tomorrow or Shock: social science fiction.
The difference being: they're actually fun to play :)

I remember Shadowrun combat was painfully slow, and I can't really recall that much about C:2020

My Role Playing days are pretty much behind me, though; hardly have the time anymore and the one game I do play once a month or so is D&D/Pathfinder (and I'm trying to convince the DM that the new Psionics rules aren't broken anymore :-)).

I may pick up the games you mentioned, though, as a fun read if nothing else (like most of the gaming material I own 9_9)

Me neither, I remember that it was a lot of useless math: add modifier, subtract modifier, a mess.
And...
as if cyberpunk was about combat. How much combat is there in a Gibson or Sterling novel? Or in True Names by Vernor Vinge? I don't think a cyberpunk game should focus that much on combat, with so much complication on that aspect of narrative. If the rules you develop most are about combat, expect combat to be focus.
But that does not define cyberpunk.

Be warned, neither Remember Tomorrow [link] nor shock [link] are fun to read. They're just instruction manuals. They're fun to play.
Oh and neither of them have a GM. And they can both be played in one session, so they're great for those night when you can't gather the entire group for your campaign, but still want to meet and play something.

The combat thing is the same complaint I've heard many say about the D20 system (although I'm one of the few who thinks it can handle many genres except, ironically, Super-Hero settings [and that includes the now incredibly confusing Mutants and Masterminds] ).

I've never played a 'GM-less' game before, so I may pick up one or the other and give them a try (I'm also one of those weird people who just likes reading new rules system, even if I do stick to D20 :-) ).

Okay, now I'm getting the urge to do a sexy cybered-up 'Street Samurai' or some Sorayama-esque 'Gynoid' :-)

Nah, it's the same with any traditional game. If you pay attention, there's always a chapter on rules and a chapter on combat. And they usually are at least the same lenght, when the combat chapter is not longer. Why? I mean, why does fight have always to have the most complicated rules? Why does it always have to be so important? That makes all the game the same on that respect. Remember Tomorrow and Shock don't emphasize on combat, the mechanics are the same for ANY conflict. And you only roll the dice when it matters, i.e. when you're facing an opposition. The difference with task resolution is that you don't have a person bearing the burden of responsibility of declaring when one has to roll the dice. The game tells you that clearly, so it's more equal. Everyone's equally responsible for the group's enjoyment and fun is equally distributed.

I'm really liking your transition into incorporating more photorealistic elements into your illustration with the chromatic aberration. There's something about this that makes a scenes a bit more tangible, at least to me.
