Back to some digital art after quite a while. This is vaguely inspired by the MMPG EVE online, as I always picture the ships' captains to be something enshrouded by mysticism and a somehow religious authority. They are the sole governors of immense ships manned by adequately huge crews who only rarely would see their captain; and also, they're semi-permanently wired to the ship's systems. I guess that would turn them into something akin to gods to the eyes of superstitious space sailors.
And of course, there's always a wink towards Frank Herbert's Dune and the novel's Guild Navigators (hence the title).

That heavy cape is incredibly sexy.

Always like dune references too. But I'm in really in love with that cape.

Hay, fellow Dune fan!
Yes! Of course I know, although it's Norma Cenva. I heard Kevin J. Anderson wrote about her in his prequels, but I refuse to read those: not only it's a tasteless commercial operation, but I also know Anderson to be one of the worst writers I've ever read. Possibly the worst.

I'm currently reading Herbert's WorShip series (the four novels Destination:Void, The Jesus Incident, The Lazarus Effect, and Ascension Factor), also very interesting so far.
And if you haven't read Whipping Star, I can only recommend it.
